John & Jan Baxter
Called to serve in the Phillipines
John and Janet Baxter are involved in leadership development, first in the Philippines where they train pastors, church workers, and global missionaries at Cebu Graduate School of Theology and Baptist Theological College. John and Jan are also working with Diaspora Mission groups in the 10/40 Window, helping to coordinate resources and training for tent-making missionaries in the hardest-to-reach countries of the globe.
This summer I had the privilege of being a part of the first doctoral program offered to Filipino church leaders in all of Central and Southern Philippines. Earlier in the spring, Cebu Graduate School of Theology (CGST) began the first PhD in Theology program offered at an evangelical seminary in the Southern regions. In July I guided nine students through the second class of the program. Some of these students will become the next generation of Bible college and seminary teachers for the growing church of the Southern provinces. Jan and I also taught other first semester classes at Baptist Theological College and CGST.
At the beginning of September we returned to Orlando to continue our work with the Global Diaspora Network (GDN). The GDN is a forward-looking ministry that promotes missions to and from the millions of migrating people who are both a great opportunity and a resource for missions. Jan and I are working with mission educators and leaders across North America to develop strategies to win, train, and send these people on the move.
In September I will travel to Arizona to facilitate small gatherings of mission educators at the annual Evangelical Missiological Society meeting. We have the opportunity to work with mission leaders and mission sending agencies to advance Diaspora missions.
When God brings us to mind this month please pray for:
1. Wisdom for John as he meets with mission agency leaders and educators at the EMS annual meeting.
2. God’s financial provision as we are below our required support level.
