worship

"Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth."

-Psalm 96:1

At Bethel, our worship is expressed by how we live and what we say and sing to God. We do not believe that singing praise to God in a church service is, in and of itself, worship. However, we do believe that worshiping God through singing is a command to all and is a powerful way to respond to our King (Psalm 66:1-2 - Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise!).

The message that our music and songs communicate is of utmost importance to us. Whether our music is sometimes loud or soft, fast or slow, new or old, with a full band or a smaller group, matters little in comparison to the message of the song and the condition of our hearts. It is important to us that the songs we sing accurately reflect God’s Word, so that we can express our thankfulness for the gospel through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father.

Draw Near

One of the greatest promises in scripture is that God says He will come near to us if we draw near to Him (James 4:8). God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and Truth as John 4:24 says. When we seek to give God glory with our hearts, souls, minds, and strength, God inhabits the praise of His people (Psalm 22:3) and the manifest presence of God begins to come down. When we draw near to the Lord in worship and He draws near to us, lives are transformed, hope is restored, and the church is reminded of God’s goodness and grace found only in His Son Jesus Christ.

Our Heart

The worship ministry seeks to put all the attention and the affection upon Christ and not the songs we sing or the instruments we play; although, music plays a huge part in our corporate gatherings. God’s word instructs us to sing to the Lord (Psalm 96:1) and that is our goal at Bethel, to not just sing about God as if He is not with us; but, we want to acknowledge his presence with us and praise the mighty name of Jesus.
